Theropod Dinosaur Egg Clutch - Display Replica
The eggs in this circular clutch were laid by a carnivorous (meat eating) dinosaur, or theropod. Theropod embryos have been found by researchers within similar shaped and textured eggs. Note the "layered tiers" of eggs. Nests with similar eggs have been discovered with a parent (Oviraptor) still "sitting" in the brooding position over the eggs.
Note also the "pairing" of the individual eggs. This indicated that female theropod dinosaurs, unlike their bird relatives, had two sets of ovaries and oviducts and laid their eggs two eggs at a time, all at one sitting.
Display Replicas are painted by our experts to match the original fossil’s coloration. Note: some portions of the original fossil may have been scientifically restored.
